Like humans, animals can benefit from Reiki, as it is used for the
inducement of calmness and relaxation, reduction of stress, alleviation of
pain and hastening of the physical healing process. Animals receive the
energy treatment at home. This is more comfortable for them, since they
may fall into a deep sleep after the treatment and should be left
undisturbed. Healthy animals, like my dog Kailey, may accept Reiki for the
feeling of pure enjoyment they get from it.
Animals suffering from arthritis benefit from it, because Reiki is a
non-invasive way to relieve pain. However, animals will often choose the
length of the energy treatment. Cats, in particular may walk away and
return several times during a session and just take the amount of energy
needed.
Since Reiki can be given without direct physical contact with the animal,
it could be beneficial in the treatment of wildlife. Terminally ill or
very old animals may take the energy to move on, pass away, let themselves
die.
